mourning - part 1

a new beginning
sat 16 aug 08 was the 7th day of the funeral. on this day, more rites were conducted. this was the first of the series of rites to be conducted. in all 5 sessions had to be conducted - on the 7th day, 21st day, 35th day and on the 49th day. the most important being the 7th and the 49th day. the chinese believe that the deceased will return to his home to visit his family one last time before he leave them forever. this was also the day that the deceased will come to full realisation of his death. the 49th day is believed to be the day when the spirit of the deceased will be reborned.

once again, we gathered at the columbarium and did our prayers. mum came along too. and it was obvious that she was still coming to terms with dad's passing away. she sobbed and cried when she saw the niche. i guessed it will take sometime for her to accept the fact that her husband, my father, is no longer alive and is now kept in an urn behind the marble slab that bears his name.
