buying the final resting place
everyday of the wake, i had to open the funeral palour at 0830am. the morning rites would include purchasing breakfast for my dad, conduct some prayers and arrange the place in preparation for guests to arrive.
on the second day, after opening up the place, the funeral parlour had arranged for my brother and i to meet the agent to identify and purchase the niche at the columbarium. mum came along. we met the agent and after looking around, we decided on one particular niche - eugenia block 1, room 23, niche number 38. it was a double niche, that is, a niche meant for two. that would be my parent's permanent resting place. but for now, it would occupy my dad's ashes. and in time to come, my mum's. bringing mum along was also to allow mum the peace of mind that we had booked a good place for dad and her. after identifying the niche, we asked for her opinion. she looked at it, liked it and agreed. her blessings was the most important. the whole process was very straight forward and simple. once that was done, it was back to the funeral parlour.
