this year's national day will not be any different from my previous few ndps since 2005. i missed the observance ceremony. and as promised to myself, i will not recite the national pledge. it's my own quiet way of protesting against the system. i am singaporean and i am gay. and as far as my government sees it, these two cannot co-exist.
yesterday, i saw a car with a sticker pasted on the bumper. on it it said "i love my country. but i hate my government". well, perhaps, hate is a bit too strong. but certainly, it does reflect to a small extend the sentiments i have. to me, the government is generally ok. but there are certain archaic policies it has chosen to keep that made it looked very hypocritical (and seemed almost cowardly). and for that i am totally against.
