after my dental treatment i brought mum to the coffee shop and she asked to eat some snacks there. and as it was crowded, a man signaled for us to join his table. come come, he said. i am buying takeaway, so you can have the table for your food. we thanked him and soon enough, mum started eating her food. that was when the man started a conversation with us... oh, is she peranakan? my grandma is, you know? and peranakans have very beautiful accessories... etc etc etc. and he went on about how his grandma left her accessories to her children and grandchildren after she passed away. soon enough, his food came. before he left, he handed me his name card, i am retired by the way. and i operate a shop at chinatown. do drop by and visit me sometime ok? he said. and with that he walked off, with a limp and a walking stick.
hmm... quite weird. why would anyone be so friendly? but certainly as a stranger, i thought he was a little too friendly. then again, i might just be a little sensitive. i simply didn't think too much about it. but not mum... despite smiling and giving a few nods here and there during the conversation, she didn't say anything and happily ate her food. and as i walked her to the car park, she said... just now that man who talked to you... he has the sex maniac look. just look at the lustful look on his face, i am sure he has designs on me. i think he wants to rape me...
errrrrrrr... i was very amused with her thoughts, her reasonings and her words. they reek of paranoia, and suspicions. must be her early stage dementia again, i thought. anyway, i tried to lighten the mood and brushed it off by saying that she is already 80-plus (i was trying to be diplomatic and not resort to saying she is no longer attractive... heh). and i went further to rationalize with her by asking how he could possibly do anything to her given his handicapped legs. and my mum's reply?
well, if a man is as lustful as him, he would even do an 80-plus years old woman like me...
i changed the topic of our conversation immediately.
lol...
