this year, i will not be able to celebrate mooncake festival as i am still technically in mourning. so for the first time after many years, i am not able to give mooncakes to james' family, my god-daughter's family, my close friends, and so on. have also left message with james to explain to his parents and also to relay the message of my dad's passing to them. similarly, i will not be able to celebrate some of my friend's birthday celebrations including min yee's dinner this coming sunday.
some of my friends asked if they should check with min yee (in the case of the birthday dinner) or the families (in the case of the mooncake) as to whether they mind. but i think it is not right. even if he/they are not superstitious and do not mind, i will end up feeling that i have not given enough respect or considerations to them.
so, better to just avoid these celebrations for 49 days (up till 27 sep) or for the next 3 months or so - to be exact, 100 days (up till 17 nov). such avoidance is probably not just for myself, but it is also out of respect for my friends and their family.
