promotion after all

yup, contrary to earlier inputs, i will be expecting one after all. here's the story...

my chief has arranged for me to have lunch with her tomorrow. she said it would be to tell me about my performance. well, i wasn't surprised to get this appointment. it is, after all, expected considering we will be expecting our pay adjustment by end of the month and thus, bosses are required to talk to their direct reports to debrief them about their performance. it was kind of a non-affair for me frankly speaking, more so after my immediate head debriefed me last week (very apologetically) that nothing's gonna change for me.

then this evening, just about an hour plus ago, i got a call from my immediate head. it was not normal for him to call me, much less at such an odd hour. and he told me he would be on leave tomorrow and thought it would be important for him to prime me before i head out for the lunch. apparently, he had another round of discussion with my chief and they agreed that i have been doing more than what is expected of me, and it would be important that my responsibilities and contributions be recognised; even if the bad operating environment and the company's lacklustre performance do not allow them to commensurate this promotion with the same magnitude in terms of the pay adjustment. as usual, he sounded apologetic about it but said that would be the least he could do for me before he leaves end next month (he's a contract staff).

well, what more can i say right? i expressed my appreciations and thanked him for it.

i thought it's very nice of him to push for it.
