about facebook

with the explosion of friend requests coming in, some thoughts came to mind...

hasn't facebook devalue the whole concept of "friend"? i mean, when i was younger (a lot younger), it was quite fashionable to categorise people into acquaintances, friends, close friends, etc... and often, such conversation would become very heated as different people had different ways of categorising people. but these days, with facebook, all these different categories became irrelevant. every other person can request to be your "friend".

of cos we can take this whole friend-thing superficially. but on the other hand, it totally puts some relationships (or at least, the words we used to frame the relationship) upside wrong, and inside out. for example, we can have our parents, siblings, spouse etc as "friends" now. and we need to friend them before we can categorise them as "father", "mother", "brother", "sister", etc. how much more wrong can that be?

i am rattling again...

hahaha...
