received a text from an unknown number yesterday and thought it was a wrongly send text. but no, it turned out to be from someone whom i had known since 1994.
he was a national service soldier (either private or lance corporal) in my unit and i was a regular servicemen (a major). but we got along very well off work and kept in contact even after he left service (and i had left the unit) to attend my staff college. we continued the friendship and he was comfortable enough to invite me to his place quite a few times.
our friendship lasted more than a decade although we spoke less in later years and i lost contact with him after i changed my phone some years back. so you could imagine how very pleasantly surprised i was to get the message. and we spoke like we've never lost contact. he now has 3 kids and is in his second marriage. and this was roughly how the conversation started once the clarification of identity was done...
have i ever told you i am gay?
i know it all along and i am cool with it. i have many gay friends too.
well, with that squared off, the whole conversation became very easy cos gay man like me tend to be more relax and at times flirt a little with straight man. but of cos, it was a light-hearted conversation and it felt really good to be able to just talk like good friends and tease each other without fear of homophobia.
it's nice to reconnect again!
