up & about

the thing about bad backs are that when you behave like you have bad back, you will have a bad back! yup, of cos i admit it is easy to say that now that i am up and moving. but really, what i realized is that while i need to rest the back and not aggravate the injury, i also need to constantly make the effort to get up and move about. and of cos, when i do that, i need to make sure i get back to the basics - be conscious about my posture, my gait, my movements, and so on. in another words - be aware, be in the present, in the now, and be very focused. hmmm... why do i sound so buddhistic? haha...

have been nursing my bad back for the last week and have been trying to stretch myself insofar as my movements. and yesterday, i decided that i should go further than my comfort zone and decided to do my routines and live my life as normally as i could. and so, i went to the chiro, got a haircut, went to the market for my breakfast and so on... yes, admittedly, the back still hurt and i felt very sore after the activities. but i must say, after resting and lying on the heat-pad for half hour or so, i could get up and continue with whatever i need to do. this, i reckoned, is the only way i can hasten the recovery process. of cos, the process can be a bit difficult and achy cos by the end of the day, my whole body would feel so very tired. but i think in the long run, i can recover faster and probably get back to normality sooner.

but of cos, it was funny how i had to slowly take my time to get up of the hairdressing chair after the haircut, how i had to walk like an old man when i transit from activity to activity, how i had to hold my back in public as i slowly get up from my chair and start walking... and talking about getting back to normality, i went to the chiro yesterday and i was taught about the basics of how to stand from a sitting position and vice versa all over again. interestingly, how we had to relearn all the basics in order to minimize hurting our own body as we get older.

but yes, i am now up and about and getting on with life.

Hi Peace,
Not sure if this is any help but it help me when i get lower back ache. I roll a old sweater and tug it under my back, just about the waistline, as i lie on my back. It sort of support the arch of the spine. I got the idea after watching a chinese program on health on cable. Maybe you can check with your chiro in your next visit.
Speedy recovery
