pay negotiation

it has been 2 days since my interview with the md of the security company. and this evening, the hr called me to discuss about the renumeration. it was interesting cos i have never done it before. luckily, the consultant management company prepared me for it and i had done my research. heh heh... we started by confirming the position that i will be offered. i was glad it would be pegged at a senior manager-level. it is a new post that has been created to suit my skill sets. i could sense the company wanting to position and groom me for a senior management post in the medium term. this was subsequently affirmed by the hr person that i spoke with. so, the enlarged job scope, apart from signaling their trust in me, would also provide me with a good grounding in the company. this could only do good for me in the longer term. anyway, the initial figure quoted was rather low and i was not too happy about it. it was clear that they had stuck to my lowest end of my first "guesstimate" package - that was rather baseless given that i did not know my position nor jobscope at that time when i was asked. now, with a better clarity of the position and title, i was able to negotiate the renumeration by citing some market research figures. and after almost half hour of negotiation, i was able to up the initial offer to something that is more reflective of what the market rate is paying and that i am happy with. the next step is to await the md to clear this figure (which i am rather confident he will). once that is done, the hr will formally make an offer to me. looking forward to it. :-)
