he said that based on the ecg readings over the past few days, there were occasions where certain parts of the heart seemed to function abnormally. this, he explained, could either be due to normal degeneration of the heart due to old age or in the worst case, a constriction of the blood vessels serving blood to the heart. thus, to the coronary angiogram test would allow them to determine if there are any constrictions and to insert a stent if need be. after explaining the procedure and the benefits and risks, he asked me to think it through and to revert over the weekend and that if we decide to proceed, they would do the procedure on monday.
i thought we should proceed but as in all decision making, i spoke to mum, updated my siblings about it and asked for their opinions. there were lots of questions from my siblings naturally (except my eldest sis, whom i updated through my brother-in-law). as for mum, she was ok to proceed. my second sis and brother agreed too but my eldest sis (through my brother-in-law) had no comments.
will tell the hospital to proceed as needed.

just wondering why the doctor never consider other non invasive tests such as CT coronary angiogram, CT calcium score and 2D echo...etc. perhaps he is not doing that for the sake of experimental...just my view. neither disagree nor critique...maybe this is the quicker way to rule out the problem.

ReplyDelete@steve: I supposed this is the most straight forward way and that if there are any issues, it can be treated right away. The risk is also v small.
ReplyDeleteFrom the patients perspective, it is probably also the least traumatic especially if they cannot fully understand the full reasons.
