bad inglish

an interesting reflection... sometimes, you tend to believe the things you read more if it is expressed in super duper bad english. here's what i mean.

recently, i did a google search on "horse 2014 forecast". i was curious about experts' forecasts of me this coming year after my boss told me it would not be a good one for me. that search led me to many links, many of which were written in excellent english. as i read, it struck me how similar all of them sounded. and after a while, i got somewhat "desensitized" to all the things they wrote. it's like as though the different authors had plagiarized a common source. but the content of one particular link caught my attention. and it did so becos of its bad english. and it was precisely becos of its bad english that made it sound so authentically chinese. and for that very reason, it became so much more credible.

it was funny. but certainly, and most objectively, i did not mean to discredit any well-written content. i was, and still am, sure they must have their own grounds and reasons for what they wrote.

:-)
