aborted angiogram procedure...

i was so darned busy on monday morning co-ordinating my car repairs, meeting up and getting directions from my big boss who had just returned from a 2-week holiday, changing and updating my presentation slides that i had to present to my top management at 3pm… and with mum who kept calling me non-stop to tell me she's hungry, that she's bored and that she found the hospital stay to be a waste of time, etc etc etc. and then out of no where, mum called to tell me that the doctor had certified her fit for discharge and that i should go pick her up. that was 10am. of course, i refused to do it. my immediate conclusion was that mum has insisted on being discharge and thus the doctors gave in. i asked for the nurse, who confirmed mum's inputs. i insisted on knowing the reasons why but she couldn't explain except to promise that she would relay my message to get the doctor to call me.

and as i burned my keyboard away and rushed through my work, my mum continued calling every few minutes. it was so frustrating but i held my cool as i engaged her. it was until past noon before the cardiologist finally called and confirmed that they had finally decided to abort mum's angiogram procedure. i was perplexed by this sudden turn of event cos when the cardiologist spoke to me last friday, he was quite convinced it was necessary. and when i queried him, he spoke (half embarrassingly) that well, there were different cardiologists with different specialities and one particular few took a review of the ecg readings and felt that the procedure was not needed. and much as i was unhappy with this seemingly lackadaisical attitude to the issue, i didn't want to pursue further nor chide him. i simply thanked him for the explanation and hung up. to me, it was regretful that a reputable heart center had to put the family of a patient through this process, only to abort the whole procedure at the last minute. what they should have done was to look at all the data and analyze it properly before even recommending such procedures!
