冬至 (dōngzhì) 2008

this sunday is 冬至 (dōngzhì or the winter solstice festival). i'll will be heading to the columbarium to pay respects to my dad. it will be the first 冬至 (dōngzhì) after his demise in aug and my mum has asked me to prepare tāng yuán (see picture) for him, as per what i would do every year... and i will be cooking my dad's favourite - hokkien-baba-style "tāng yuán cooked in ginger-flavoured coconut sugar soup"! and as usual, my tang yuan will come in white and pink! so exciting!

then again, if u look closely, the tang yuan picture shows one that has some filling (i suspect it is sesame filling)... mine is the traditional one - ie no filling. and with pandan leaves. the result is something original, nice, smooth, and fragrant!

u mean the one at the bottom. I thot that was some unfortunate housefly - hence making it certainly NON- vegetarian.
