cleared room

have been spending the last couple of hours clearing my rooms of things. this is to prepare them for the treatment and polishing of the parquet flooring and repainting of the rooms. hmmm, come to think of it, actually, it is the repainting on my guest room. for my own room, it has always been white - untouched since the day i took over the house 12 yrs 3 months ago!

now, other than my computer table and my bed, both my room and my guest room have been totally cleared of stuffs. tomorrow the contractor's gonna come and do up the rooms. they will probably take 2 days for the rooms before moving on to do up the living room!

somehow, dismantling things also has a certain nostalgic/ sentimental effect on me. for example, as i dismantle the shelves on my wall, i cannot help but think of the days when i had just moved in and how i had spent my days shopping around so that i could install things myself. the shelves, the curtain railings, the curtains and so on. and to a certain extent, i was also reminded of some of the characters in my life over the last 12 years plus. also, as i clear my guest room, dismantling my parent's bed brought back memories of my dad, and my mum. apparently, due to my dad's huge size and heavy weight, the bed frame had been badly bended! it has been 4 months exactly since my dad passed away and that my mum had moved out. now, their mattresses, pillows, bolsters and blankets now carry a certain stale smell... this despite me making the effort to wash them and sun them regularly. it is so true that time really cleans away all physical traces of a person/s.

sighs.
