brought mum to the temple today. it was the first day of the tenth lunar month and felt right to pay a visit to the temple. and as always, we went there about 3-ish when the sun was not so warm.
we arrived at the temple at about 3.45pm and i promptly wheeled mum to the altar located outside the main door. i picked up a couple of joss sticks but when i went around the place, i noted all the candles and light had been extinguished. i walked into the main hall itself, looking for a light. and the auntie looking after the hall told me not to use joss sticks and to just use my hands, it's the same she said. and she added that the temple would be closing soon. well, i could have explained to her that perhaps it was the same to her, but to me and i was sure to my mum, it was different (for different reasons). anyway, i did not refute. i simply thanked her and went out to tell my mum about it.
my mum took it in good spirit, placed her palms together and made a prayer as she faced the sky. and when she was done, i turned the wheelchair and pushed her towards the main hall entrance (where the buddhas were located inside). i was just two steps away from the door when the auntie, despite seeing me, slammed the door onto me and my mum's face. wt..! i was surprised, shocked and simply disappointed with such a behavior. i did not say anything but just told mum to say her prayers in front of the closed doors. again, mum took it well. she could not understand why the temple closed so early, but took it in stride and simply accepted the fact that at least she managed to make her way to the temple today.
sighs…
