i slogged through the whole of tue and wed conducting and co-ordinating a program. and although this was not the first time i conducted this program, it was no less stressful as i had implemented a lot of new things. these includes measures to tighten time management, a formal program introduction, measures to help presenters know program participants, etc etc etc...
and added to all these new initiatives, my chief is a participant of the program this time round. so, it was kinda an added pressure to make sure she finds it ok, considering she did not have a good impression of her orientation when she came in 3 weeks ago (and as a result, didn't quite have a good impression of how the ops people conducted the orientation). and top of it all, my ceo wanted certain things to be done that involves calling managers from across the company... so... yeah, lots of pressure and lots of running around. thankfully, my staff and i worked very well and the two days came and went smoothly. everything went almost like clockwork.
when the whole program ended last evening, my chief came up to me, thanked me and held out her hand. naturally, i held out my hand too in response to the handshake. but what caught me off guard was her coming further forward to give me a hug. well done and great job! she said. heh... surprised, but certainly very appreciated and a good encouragement!

Your new chief has a very "nurturing" leadership style: easier for a woman to pull off without seeming questionable, but good for her for being so comfortable in her own skin. I will admit to being a hugger, but would not express at work since it could raise questions of appropriateness (easier to let people know my door was open if they needed an ear to vent to or just have a good cry).
I assume you have worked through that the "weird" dream was really about being called to leadership with the 1st and 4th focused on appropriateness (especially in a tradition bound setting). Interesting. Have you worked through how you feel about the "pink sun"?

ReplyDeleteThe hug was indeed a surprised. Am happy to have a supportive boss who is very encouraging. Her leadership to the team is really a refreshing change compared to before she came in where we were all left on our own to navigate.
As for the dream, yup, I do have a sense of the reasons and in part was my own doing cos I had been taking a longer than expected time to develop some other programs that is supposed to be conducted next week... And it is causing me a lot of stress... As for the pink sun, heh... I really have not thought about it... Pink for gay? Lol! I should really buck up at work or there'll be more of such dreams!
And oh, I love hugs too! Just that I do not do that at work. Such lovey dovey gestures is still not very fashionable in my industry and society...
