mindful speeding

i had an interesting thought this morning on my way to class. i was driving above the speed limit and when i met my fellow teacher in school, he commented that i drove very fast. my response? "no lah, i drive fast, but i didn't rush. if you rush when you drive, it can be dangerous even if you are driving slowly. conversely, if you are mindful, even if you drive fast, you can be very safe."

and he asked - so? mindful speeding is safe? hmmm, i should tell my wife that.

heh heh... yes, my take is this - mindful speeding can be safe. just look at grand prix drivers. they drive at crazy speeds right? but they are very focus and mindful when they drive. no? heh heh... but well, let me set my words right. when i said mindful speeding is safe, i do not advocate that one should start speeding along our roads. to do so is being reckless and irresponsible. let me explain. it is safe provided you are driving on roads that are designed to take driving at that kind of speed, people driving around you observe the same cautious habits as you, people around you are also mindful when they drive, and the car you are driving can take that kinda speed. too many ifs right?

not worth the risk. not to mention, breaking the law. and yes, i was irresponsible when i drove fast this morning.
