was talking casually about weight management with bee a couple of days back. and as we went along, i posed this challenge - to lose 5kg by end of 2010. at first, this target seemed easy to achieve as the date seemed very far. but when we started to divide this target into months, we realized that it was not too easy. we need to be able to cut down close to half a kg per month. and this would require us to do some conscious adjustment to our food intake and exercise regime.
hmmm...
we started planning... and we thought of ways to do it. it was quite interesting to note our slightly different views as to how it could be achieved and the ways it could be framed. for example, we could reduced our weight via reducing food intake (eat less of everything), even reducing calorie intake (similar to earlier option but from a caloric intake angle), or simply reducing or control certain food type intake (eg no oily food).
and as we discussed, we reached the conclusion that our initial approach of looking purely at weight gain/loss might result in us missing the larger issue of health altogether! instead, we should target towards being healthy. and to achieve this via a healthy balanced diet and regular exercises. a middle path. if i may call it. in terms of food intake, it must be balanced. other than being conscious of and reducing our calorie intake, we should also reduce fried stuff and go for more fruits and vegetables as far as possible. exercise-wise, we should commit ourselves to a healthy dose of exercises weekly. and if we are healthy, our weight and bmi will be in the optima range.
