i've been attending my cousins' wake these couple of days and each day, i get to meet and catch up with lots of relatives. mostly from my generation. those of my parents' generation are either too sickly or have left us. and i can say we find the catching up very fun. it certainly felt very good to talk about our parents, their experiences, our old kampong days, how we had fun, how we played, how we lived life back then. and of course, we would also laugh at each other now and joked about how we have all grown old and fat and la la la...
reflecting, it's rather sad that relatives and friends tend to meet only when someone in the family (1) marries (2) gives birth (3) celebrates his/ her birthdays (4) passes away. and whenever they meet, they would speak of their past and then lament that they should meet more often... and all too soon, they take their leave. and then they would meet again during the next marriage, birthday or funeral wake... and yet again, they would reminisce and lament. and the cycle repeats. and each time they meet, they realize their contemporaries get older and older, and the number of people gets lesser and lesser... and all too soon, they themselves become the object of the meeting...
hmmmm...
