good news - my mum looked a little better today following antibiotics treatment.
bad news - the hospital discovered that her oesophagus has become constricted and suspected that it was the cause of her constant vomiting. the doctor also suspected that some of the regurgitated food could have flowed into her lungs thereby causing the pneunomia. to minimize regurgitation, she has been kept off all food since saturday. and in order to sustain her, the hospital has placed her on tube feed. further tests are still being conducted. we were also told that there is a possibility that she may be placed on tube feed permanently. when told of the need to insert the tube, my mum was very hesitant. she kept asking if it was going to be painful and it took us a lot of effort to explain to her that she will feel at most some minor discomfort. i find this behaviour very weird. all her life, she has been very brave and receptive of treatment. in addition, she has all along been very tolerant of pain. perhaps it was not pain that she was afraid of?
:-(
