last week, i was walking pass my colleague's office when i overheard a very interesting conversation. apparently, my big boss was also inside and my colleague, upon reading the newspaper, passed a remark about how mainlander chinese were too much to brand gong li a traitor for obtaining singapore citizenship. after he passed that remark, my big boss added something along the line that chinese people could be unreasonable and that they could be over-nationalistic and brand people all sorts of negative names just because they do not conform to what a mainlander would consider to be norm.
before the conversation could proceed further, i interjected. i reminded them that we had reacted similarly when our fellow singaporeans migrated sometime back. i reminded them that we had labeled our own people "quitters". well, upon my interjection, a momentary silence followed and next thing i knew, i boss acknowledged with a hummppphh and nod. the conversation died straight away.
guess sometimes we can be blinded by our own pride and made conclusions too fast without realising that we had committed similar acts before.
