surprise dinner

decided to call some of my friends for a surprise dinner for bee at the cafe last evening. all of us played our part to stage the event. details such as how the food should be displayed, how the table should be arranged and so on were co-ordinated. it was a white-themed dinner. james had closed the cafe for a private function. all went smoothly, almost like a military operation. how kwang would call bee to meet her at chinatown point (and make him wait there for her) so as to allow us to set up the table, the decor, how she would not appear on the pretext of being in the toilet, how james would call to chase him to return as the `guests' had arrived, and so on. for the first time, the cafe was `dressed' to host a birthday dinner and i thought it looked very cosy and very beautiful.

of cos, we were threatened by the crowd that gathered for the lehman-thing protest... (the people there all seemed rather educated... and my impression was that it was greed that motivated them to protest rather than mis-selling... ok, another story...). luckily, as darkness quickly fell, the crowd petered off and we were able to dine merrily without any disturbances from the protesters; save for a few stares from curious passer-bys. but i thought it was also a good publicity for the cafe! the evening unfolded beautifully. it was a nice dinner complete with yummy good food, beautifully-light durian cakes, not-too-sweet but rich belgian chocolate fondue and of course, wonderfully good friends. and it ended with drinks and more merry-making at marina mandarin. overall, i believed he had a nice surprise. he was the star for the evening.

mission accomplished!

happy 30th birthday bee bee!
