work vs play

my sis smsed me earlier lamenting how frustrated she was that the internet connection at her hotel in kuantan was intermittent and that it was difficult to get work done... and i was like - wtf! she has accompanied her husband on his working trip and has gone along with her kids as they are on their year-end school holiday. so, technically, she and her kids are on holiday! and instead of spending good quality time with her kids, she has brought along her laptop and wanted to get work done!

really, sometimes i don't know whether i should be happy or sad for her. in this case, i was really happy that she was able to have the opportunity to go for a holiday with her family. and this was especially so becos she is a property agent and could hardly afford to have time off. and to make matter worst, her relationship with her kids (all in the late teens and early 20s) have been very bad and they often fight over mother-daughter stuff, i.e, trivial stuff, such as mum wants this or that to be cleaned but daughters refused to, etc. and so when she told me she's going away with her daughters, i thought they could make time to do some serious bonding... sighs. by doing so, isn't she sending the wrong signals to her kids inadvertently that they are not important and that her work is more important? sad right?

seriously... one should never mix work and play when it comes to such situations. when it is time to work, do work very hard. but when it is time to play, don't work! never never mix the two up!

hmmph!
