as a young boy, there were specific times of the year to expect certain fruits, especially seasonal ones. and over time, i came to associate these fruits with major festivals such as the chinese lunar new year (mandarin oranges), the birthday of the taoist emperor of heaven (sugar cane [although this is not a fruit per se]), mid-autumn festival (pomelo), the hungry ghost festivals (rambutans, buah rambai), or special periods of the year such as year-end school holidays (durians, mangosteens, duku langsat), etc. and oh, i always look forward to eating the buah duku langsat! the fragrance from the flesh is really a heavenly!
and yes, this fruit is now in season again!
