it's dong zhi / 冬至 (winter solstice) again today. this is a very special festival for chinese. it's a time for family gatherings and to give thanks to the gods and ancestors as we commemorate the day.
we went through the same routines. and i noted, what we did today was a combination of what we did in 2009 and 2011. heh heh. cooked tang yuan for mum and bee. mum went a little mental and refused to eat in the end (despite pestering me to buy tang yuan for her). bee came over for tang yuan in the morning... and later in the day, sis-in-law made tang yuan, and we made the offerings to dad at the columbarium. what was different this year was that we brought along the whole of brother's family - my niece and my newly delivered week-old baby boy. it is indeed a joyous and proud occasion for my brother as he presented the new and first baby boy in the next generation to my dad...
