i would frequently talk about death with my parents. not that i have ill-intentions. just wanted to make this topic less taboo and perhaps easier for us all to accept it when one of the family members (them, myself, etc) move on. be it naturally, or in an accident. also, it will help clarify how things are to be done when they leave us.
just a moment ago, my dad told me that he felt bored staying at home would like to go out for a walk/ bus-ride. but he lamented that being old, his certainly feels tired and lacks the energy to `run around'. then he joked with me that perhaps i should buy him a car to drive around. of course, i responded that it is totally not safe for him at this age to drive. and mentioned jokingly that very soon, i will be buying him paper cars instead.
well, i know it sounds kinda weird to many of you who are reading this now. but between me and my dad, this is the kind of conversation that occur from time to time. we do not see it as morbid. it's just that we have come to this level of comfort where we can joke about our eventual demise. we both agree that we are all in a queue to heaven (or hell) and that we will reach the gate some time or other, depending on the packing order. and being very attached to sapphie, he would frequently lament that sapphie will be one of the first to reach the gate compared to most of us.
anyway, he replied that he does not need paper cars, considering that nowadays paper cars are also expensive. and he added that if i intend to get him paper cars, might as well get him paper air planes. the boeing 747-type.
this makes my dad so special to me :-)
