month of "festivities"?

once again, we will be experiencing one of most interesting lunar month this year. 

the seventh chinese lunar month that starts tomorrow. the seventh month is traditionally commemorated by taoists as the month where the spirits and wandering ghost would roam the earth. so to many taoist, the seventh lunar month is not a good month. those superstitious would stay at home after sunset, and restrict themselves form doing all sorts of things they would normally do for fear of offending those spirits and wandering ghost. but to buddhists like me, i am not superstitious. the seventh month is considered a good month, a month where we pay respects to those who have passed on and to do good deeds as we dedicate merits to them. and this year, for the muslims, they will be celebrating the holy month of eid, what we termed as hari raya puasa in south east asia. added to that, singapore will also be celebrating our national day on 9 august.

so, depending on which angle you see it, there will be some sort of celebrations/ commemoration activities of sorts throughout this coming month. something very singaporean (and malaysian too? considering their national day falls end august)?
