these past couple of months/ weeks had been very bad for my neighbours up north. first, a plane disappeared and then, another got shot down. for 2 major tragedies to occur within the last few months, i thought it was highly unfortunate and if there is really a superior being up there, he must have been very unfair to them (for the record, i do not prescribe to superior beings). it goes against all logic for it to happen twice to the same airline. a life lost is a life too many. and to have 2 aeroplane load of people disappearing just like that was seriously unimaginable. and it hit me a little worst as i myself am in the airline industry.
the local newspapers and media have been reporting almost non-stop about the most recent disaster. admittedly, i got a little desensitised to them over time. but today, i see many pictures of cabin crews crying openly. i felt sad when i looked at the pictures. it was unnatural. as unnatural as how an aircraft could disappear or downed just like that. cabin crews are supposed to be happy, campy, spontaneous, loud and excitable. that is the "normal" image of cabin crews. that is how my cabin crews and all the cabin crews from other airlines that i had previously interacted with behaved. cabin crews are not supposed to look sad, much less, cry openly.
there is nothing much i can do for them other than to wish them strength during this very difficult time. and during this period where many in the region celebrate eid, it is perhaps also timely to contemplate about life, about relationships, and about appreciating the people around us.
