mum has been discharged.
over the last 2 days, i couldn't help but suspected that her dementia had taken a turn for the worst. her behaviour seemed very weird. for example, she would refuse to eat the hospital food and say it tasted horrible. and she would gobble up the loaf of bread that my sis bought for her. and according to my domestic help, she said mum would take 2 pieces of the raisin bread and stuff all of it into her mouth. that was similar to my own observation when i visited her last evening with 2 pieces of agar agar. i handed it to her and next thing i knew, she was literally stuffing her mouth with it. it didn't seemed right. and mum would also point to the auntie opposite her and made comments about the auntie. these are things that she would usually not do. and my own conclusion was that it was due to her dementia.
and it seemed like her behaviour took a turn for the worst when she got upset. for example, she was looking forward to being discharge yesterday. but in the morning, the nurse did a check and found her to be unfit for discharge. so, the doctor spoke to my brother that she would remain for more observation which we agreed. in the afternoon, my sis spoke to the doctor and for some unknown reasons (which i believe was due to my sis's insistence on getting her to be discharged), the doctor agreed. this made my brother very angry. he spoke with the doctor again and in the end, the discharge order was cancelled. i visited mum in the evening and when i saw her behaviour, my first thoughts were that the morning's event had caused her mental states to swing and could have been to stressful for her.
i am glad she finally got discharged today. sometimes, i am rather disappointed how, despite of good intentions, my siblings are totally not sensitive about my mum's mental states. then again, i cannot fault them. sighs...
