buah long long

now, how many of you actually remember or ever had good memories about this kampong fruit? it is called buah long long to the chinese. but to the malays, it is called buah kedondong. used to eat it when i was a kid in the kampong. that was years ago. in recent years, one can hardly find it in singapore. i found one hawker stall at the beach road market that sells the drink but it stopped selling it not too long ago! and the only place i can find this fruit now is at isetan scotts basement. and hmmm, it is so expensive. one small tub sells for 5bucks! arghhh!

today, i was talking to one of my old staff and he was showing me some of the fruits he had planted over the years at our workplace garden. and we spoke about buah long long. and next thing i knew, he showed me the plant. and it had bore quite a lot of fruits. he harvested them and gave them to me. heh heh... at home, i pickled them in syrup and passed some to my sis. she had not tasted it since kampong days too. and when she bit into it, i could see her being momentarily transported back in time!

ha ha... such are the effects of senses on us. it reminds us of things that we can relate too...

:-)
