another one of my conversations with my student over the weekend at the old folks home...
xxx: teacher, what car do you drive.
me: oh, i drive a kia cerato. a very small car. why leh?
xxx: teacher, i thought you drive a big bmw.
me: why? no la. teacher not very rich. can only drive small cars.
xxx: teacher, what you work as?
me: oh, i work as a training developer. do you know what it is?
xxx: no... (i went on to explain to him what my job is about)... so, teacher, how much is your pay?
me: i earn about 6-7k. is that a lot?
xxx: wa... so little lor.
me: *speechless* (thinks for a while...) that's why i drive a small car lor. :-)
i am amazed how a young sec 1 kid can say 6-7k is very little. to me when i was a kid, anything bigger than 100 is considered a lot... hmmm...
