the martian

watched this movie last weekend. i had initially hesitated watching it as i was alone and that it was a superbly long movie. the start time of the movie was 11.45pm and it would end close to 2.00am. but in the end i decided to do so as it was about space and space travel, and i have been intrigued by all things related to space all my life. and the recent announcement of nasa discovering water on mars made me more curious about mars.

i sat through the whole show, all two and a half hour of it and it didn't feel that long. the show didn't disappoint. it had all the ingredients of a good movie. the suspense, the emotional swings, the sense of total lost, adventure, the unknown unknown (come on, its mars!)... and of cos, the really good acting. then again, one small bit about how the chinese suddenly appear and decided to chip in to help was a tat odd for me. but having watched this trailer, it made total sense to me how and why this part fitted in. all humans have this innate instinct to save their own kind, and when one of our own is stuck in another planet, we all chip in, regardless of political divides.

i thoroughly enjoyed the movie. it was really good.

ps: if i recall correctly, this was perhaps one of the only shows i have watched where matt damon appeared in the nude (although it was only his back that was shown)
