crowning

had some time to spare after my ultra-sound treatment for my feet and i decided to head to the dentist. my left upper molar had felt tender whenever i bite and it had been there for as long as i could recall. i had left it untreated and instead relied on my right molars all these while.

the dentist did some tests and concluded that my upper molar was cracked and needed treatment. he said that at best, a crown would help but if the crack was really bad, a root canal would be needed. after discussing the options, i decided to go with the crown. i had all along disliked visits to the dentist, particularly for any treatments where i need to be injected. inserting a needle into the gum is really uncomfortable and between a root canal and a crown, the latter seemed less painful. 

regretfully, i couldn't avoid the injection. sighs. but i was pleasantly surprise when the injection didn't hurt. in fact, i didn't feel it at all, thanks to a numbing agent that the dentist applied before the injection. the drilling and filing of the molar was done in a jiffy and the dentist placed a temporary crown after taking an imprint for the permanent crown to be made. need to return to fix the permanent crown in two weeks. and as recommended, i opted for a silver crown as it would be more durable.

ps: i was told that my lower molar was also cracked and the dentist also suggested that i do a crown for it too. i decided to defer this till the next visit. all things being equal, i need to spread out the cost... each crown costs me sgd800!
