bak chang!!!

finally completed the packing of the bak chang (bak as in `meat' and chang as in `dumpling' in hokkien) for this year! my nieces came along to help. they simply love the packing and are quite expert in it. in time to come, i hope they will be able to cook the ingredients too! the thought of being able to share the recipe and transfer this know-how to the next generation really thrills me! preserving part of my culture and heritage! nonya bak chang! this year, i think we must have packed close to 200 bak changs!

also, this time round, i did several new things. they include - cooking the rice together with pandan leaves to improve the aroma of the rice, using sesame oil to cook the rice, and of course, photographing the whole bak chang making process. hopefully, the photographs will help my nieces visualize and better learn the cooking process sometime!
