i bring my mum to the same hawker center on weekends weekly. and as she's wheel chair bounded, we would sit at the corner of the hawker center. and that is where the handicap tables are. well, bad english, no, not that the tables are handicapped, i am referring to tables for handicap persons. these are tables that do not come with chairs and that it is located right at the corner of the hawker center so that it is easily accessible by handicapped persons on wheelchair. well, this is where it's interesting...
in my many many times there, i have never been able to get that table for my mum. and the reason is this - because it is located at the corner and it is next to a coffee stall, it became the favourite site for all the sum ku lok por and the uncles who join in the usual morning gossip sessions... well, of cos, these days, the sum ku lok por are no longer the ah mas of the old days... they are largely aunties in their 40s-50s and they would yak in a mix of hokkien, teochew, sometimes cantonese and a splatter of bad broken english... and their conversation would revolve around who's who marry who's who, whose children dating who, and of cos, their favourite topic - 4d, horse racing, toto, and everything and anything related to gambling...
interesting bunch of people!
