i am not sure why, but i always cringe when people calls me `bro' or `dude'. i do not know why. perhaps it is becos i do not see myself fit in to the image that i tend to associate these terms with. let me explain.
i know the term `bro' means `brother' and is usually uttered as a term of endearment. but, still, it gives me a rather awkward feel. perhaps it is the image of malays that i have associated this term with. and no, before you run away with the thinking that i mean something bad, it's not. not in a bad way, rather, it is in a special and familiar warm way. it's almost at the same level as the `yo brudder!' kinda way if you know what i mean. and unless you and i are close enough, i do not think i will feel comfortable for this term to be used on me. then again, if you and i are close enough, you will not call me `bro'. heh... as for `dude', well, i also do not know why i cringe when people calls me that. i associate the term with someone who is rough and tough, someone who is a studly jock or worst still, even someone who is none of the above yet tries too hard to project that image. and i certainly do not see myself as such.
no logic rite? well, yup, but that's me. so, if you need to call me, just call me by my name... and of cos terms like `dear', `hon', `love', `sayang', etc... i sure am ok, especially when it is used in the correct context and when appropriate. hahahaha!
:-)
ps: aunties selling malay kuehs used the term `sayang' v often. same goes for `love' in many western countries. and i am so pretty ok with them!
