on monday this week, i received an sms from my ex-student inviting me to return to sit in for their end-of-course check out session. in his sms, he said that the person who took over me was away on official duty and that someone else would be sitting in to `officially' observe them. also, he felt that it would be apt for me to sit in and share given that i had gone through the first couple of months of the course with them. he mentioned something about wondering whether he should invite me given that i had left service, but in the end, he decided to follow his heart.
reading this last sentence, i felt moved.
the check out was conducted on tuesday morning and i decided to give them sometime to settle down before popping in. afterall, i thought, i was an unofficial member. i quietly slipped into the room from the back. nonetheless, it was hard not to notice their face brightening up. for that very moment, i felt so at home. i was back with my students. rather, i was back with my friends. unlike the check-in i conducted in the beginning of the course where i was the facilitator, this time round, i was a member. i joined in. i checked-in too. and it was so clear that the class was surprised yet very happy.
man... it was then that i realized how much i missed my job!
:-)
