a society exist because individuals exist. it is true the other way round too cos individuals are societal creatures too. as such, to ensure an individual's existence, he has an obligation and a responsibility to his society. i call this obligation social responsibilty. as such, if an individual doesn't observe and practise social responsibility, then wat need is there for the individual to exist in the society? he might in fact become a liability to the society.
the issue is - it's hard to have a common understanding of wat social responsibility is given that it can be interpreted in so many ways by different individuals. it can be as simple courtesies such as helping an old lady cross the road, holding the doors for the disabled, reminding people to turn on their headlights when on the roads, and so on. and when the idea of social responsibility differ between different individuals, differences in terms of reactions and responses occur. this results in tensions.
