it's the end

there have been quite a bit of publicity for the institute of technical education (also known as "ite" for short) recently. and today, it was in the papers again. it seems like there was an on-going effort by the ministry of education to align the ite curriculum with those of local polytechnics. this is to ensure there is some consistency in learning progression and synchronization of learning outcomes nation-wide.

and when bee saw this new, he asked me this: "how come this year ite has so much limelight?" well, i didn't answer, i didn't know the answer too. but his question reminded me of someone who cheekily told me that the term ite means... "it's the end". i thought it was quite funny, but not in a derogatory way. perhaps such a cheeky take on the acronym is in direct reference to the fact that students who do not fare well academically in mainstream schools, but are more inclined towards technical skills, are channeled to ite. well, perhaps the fact that there is such an cheeky take suggests something needs to be done to strengthen the brand.

nonetheless, i hope this is not what the ite students think...
