harna harna... harnor...
such familiar and common terms heard around the region and nowhere else in the world! and frankly, i am quite tickled by these terms cos despite being used commonly by we "nanyangians" (people of nanyang [南洋] that includes malaysians, singaporeans and some indonesians of chinese-descent, more specifically, southern china), there are no actual characters in the chinese language that can be used to represent them.
and you can imagine the feelings of home, of familiarity and the warmth when you hear it, especially when you are overseas. then again, i am smiling inside me now as i await my turn to see the doctor to get my mum's prescription. there is this woman beside me that is yakking non-stop on the phone and her conversation is punctuated everywhere with harnas harnors!
