been visiting my mum twice a day and staying with her till close to closing time. opposite her bed (where she faces direct), lie an elderly woman who is in a semi-conscious state. judging from the non-stop streams of visitors, it was clear that she is in the dangerous-ill-list (dil) and could possibly die any time. what was distressing about this lady is the fact that her visitors can be rather emotional and when that happens, the mood in the whole ward would really be very negative.
just earlier, when i was there, a middle aged lady came (her daughter, i supposed) with 2-3 other teenagers/ young adults. and she went up to the old lady, and started calling out to her. well, old lady was obviously semi-comatose and could not respond. and this daughter kept calling out to her mother in teochew. and as she called, she became more drama. the mother couldn't respond, yet she kept calling. and as she kept on calling, she got more and more emotional. and she went on, ma... ma... i brought ah xxx and ah yyy and ah zzz to see you liao. can you wake up and see them, ma... ma... and she repeated again and again and then her voice started breaking and... well, you know how such emotions tend to self-reinforce themselves. and in no time, almost everyone seemed to be breaking into sobs... sighs... (i was also half choking after all these non-stop ah ma ah ma calls)...
sighs... very sad right?
