mum's uti

i slept at about 12.45am. at about 2am, i got a call from a malaysian number. i ignored the call. apparently, someone from malaysia had been calling my number quite frequently. but i was cock sure it was either a wrong call, or a prank as (1) the phone is an office issue phone, (2) i do not have any dealings with any malaysians at work, and (3) this phone has a weird habit of getting calls and smses from overseas. i switch my phone to silent and went back to sleep.

i woke up again at about 4-ish am this morning. the usual middle of the night wake up habits of mine... and as per my usual habit, i would pick up my blackberry, check the time as well as emails... and i saw 2 missed calls from my brother and an unread sms. i knew immediately something bad had happened. the missed calls were at about 2am and 3am. i checked the time again, it was 4plus, and that meant i was more than an hour late... i hurriedly check my unread sms and it read "mum hospitalized at ktph".

i called back immediately. my brother answered and told me that mum had had a really bad case of stomachache and had cried non-stop. and she also kept urinating non-stop and kept wailing that she was dying soon. he had tried to get her to sgh, but the ambulance couldn't and refused to do so cos my mum seemed to be in a very bad state. and under emergency conditions, the ambulance evacuated her to ktph instead as per emergency guidelines of scdf. i asked about mum's condition at that time. apparently, she had stabilized after being given 2 injections. blood tests revealed no major internal problems/ infections. the non-stop urination seemed to suggest urinary tract infection.

i couldn't sleep after that. i tossed and turned and by about 5am, i called my brother again. the doctor had decided to discharge mum. this considering her stomach pains had subsided and that she had stabilized.

it was a close shave...
