somehow, as i watched kung fu panda 2, i couldn't help but get reminded of many of the political undertones... my mind was racing non-stop as i watched the show... why do we have a panda with green eyes? a panda that behaves anything but chinese... it reeks so much of having an american identity behind a chinese front, an abc (american born chinese) kinda thing... and why do we have an enemy-of-panda that is a red and white peacock, to be accurate, while peacock with feathers patterns that looked like a red dot in the center... hmmm... panda - china on the outside, america on the inside? america's silent way of trying to americanise the modern china? pop culture? and then we have peacock - bird we usually associate with india. red and white? to be specific red dot in white background - japan? land of the rising sun? hmmm, kinda uncanny, but it seemed like we have a show that is trying to illustrate the goings of 4 major powers at play here... america, china, japan and india...
ok, i am getting to sound out of place... my geopolitical trainings getting into my way again...
and oh, by the way, didn't we also know that china and india, and china and japan, have historical tensions too? and are currently competing powers in the asian region... but well, what about history where japan invaded china and had millions killed (nanking massacre)? peacock killing panda village? hmmm... and what about america beating the shit out of japan with red firy balls called atomic bombs? ok, ok... i just cannot stop...
anyway, despite being reminded of all these things, i actually enjoyed the show. a lot more depth in this story. i liked the fact that the show brought out the different sides of almost every individual characters and that it also explained a whole lot more of panda's history. nice! and yes, if you wanna watch it, it is worth every bit to pay a bit more and watch the 3d version. lots of actions.
:-)
ps: i actually did not find it funny that i shared the same surname as the villian of the show. hmmph!
