ladybird

this is something that used to be a common sight during my kampong days. i often get it flying into my house and i would catch it and admire its beauty. reminded of it when someone used the nick "ladybird" to post comments in my blog recently. the ladybird hardly comes by these days. i don't even know if it still exist in the wild in singapore.

picture obtained from http://www.123rf.com. i am not sure if it is the same species as those found locally. nonetheless, it is a ldaybird alright!

Hi, thanks for the beautiful picture of a ladybird. It brought back pleasant memories of my childhood, the time when I let a cute little ladybird crawl on my hand. I think it was a seven-spotted ladybird - the species that feeds on tiny insect pests.

Sadly, I also don't see them now, just a lot of cockroaches, lizards, beetles (not the ladybirds), flies and ants. Occasionally, grasshoppers and moths do fly in. I hardly see dragonflies and praying mantis too.

Hope you are better. Good-night. :)

thanks :-)

have yet to regain my voice yet. but thankfully, the fever is gone. might take a while. but well, it is progressing in the right direction.

these days, i do see dragonflies, but most often when they are dead and being chewed up by ants. but i do miss those damselflies. used to go damselfly catching as a kid. as for dragonflies, i would look out for those with red heads. thought those were more energetic and flies very fast. well, those were the days when we have lots of ponds, pools of water and untouched green spaces. don't get them much these days.

:-)

@shane: i am sure there are lots of spaces and wilderness in both malaysia and indonesia where one can go to to find these critters. as for singapore, it is getting very urbanized and unless one were to head towards major parks and nature reserves, it is hard to find them...
