although the mourning period was over, technically, we are still in mourning. we were told by the funeral co-ordinator to symbolically have a haircut before the 7th day and if we don't we will have to observe not cutting our hair for at least 100 days. i am totally not sure what the reasons are but still, thought it is better to observe what we were told. anyway, the following are the dates where we have to do the necessary prayers for mum...
- 7th day: 22 nov 2015
- 21st day: 6 dec 2015
- first lunar birthday after passing: 15 dec 2015
- 35th day: 20 dec 2015
- 49th day: 3 jan 2015
- 100th day: 23 feb 2016
- first tombsweeping commemoration: to be conducted early (or latest on the actual day)
- first anniversary
and there are guidelines with regards how the prayers are to be done... 4 fruits, vegetarian meals, etc... well, the list goes on. for me, i will be observing my mourning obligations such as no celebrations of any kind for the first 100 days. and this mean there will be no birthday celebrations (for my nephew and i), no chinese new year celebrations, etc. and on top of that, no commemorating of the god's birthdays for 3 years. i will also be observing minimally vegetarianism for the first 49 days. and if i can, i wouldn't mind doing it for 100 days.
Hi Jeff,
ReplyDeleteI share the same thoughts with you that being a vegetarian within the 100 days is a good practice.
I was told needs to practice it with a clear mind too.
You re a filial son and I'm sure your area mum has a good rebirth.
