star wars: the force awakens

watched the show with bee last night and i was brought back to my childhood, in all sense. found myself behaving like a little kid throughout the show! was a simple story but what won me over, over and over again were:

• the appearance of the characters i was so familiar with - han solo, chewbacca, c3po, r2d2 and last but not least, luke skywalker - their aged faces made it even more authentic for me. it's like they've grown old with me, or me them - whatever (of cos, i was not sure if the person inside the chewie costume was the same person, but what the heck right?). and of cos, it didn't matter that some characters were not there, characters that were equated to the star wars series (e.g. yoda), or characters that i thought were rather irritating (e.g. jar jar binks)...

• and i liked how each of the old characters were introduced one by one throughout the show, all the way until the end of the show. i got all excited again and again when they appeared, like how han solo and chewy appeared, and then how princess (i still prefer to call her princess) leia walked out of the spaceship, i swear i could recognise her even if she was 80!, and there was c3po, and r2d2... and just when i thought i'd be disappointed with the lack of luke skywalker, he was brought to life just before the show ended!

• the whole feel of the show. it felt like just yesterday when i first watch star wars (to be exact, i first watched in it when i was in primary 5?) - the desert feel, the foreign planet, the flying machines, the aliens, etc... and since i watched the 3d version, which was an added plus, added so much more depth to the scene - the size and magnitude of the space craft, etc. and to top it off, advances in computer graphics made the whole effects all so much more real! very nice!

• well, these characters have become part and parcel of star wars. you can never remove them. ever. of cos, the introduction of new characters was a nice addition. and i must add, quite guiltily, that i have also come to find bb-8 rather likeable. heh heh... liking bb-8 felt like betraying my lifelong affections for c3po and r2d2! and come to think of it, doesn't c3po and r3d2 come across as a perfect gay couple, considering they are both masculine in nature, despite both being robots? hmm, and now we have a 3-some... haha...

• and of cos, the signature theme song completed the total sensory experience for me. 

having gushed so much about the show, there were bits of the show that made me a little sad, although i saw it coming. scenes like how han solo died, that was a really sad part for me. but... yeah, i supposed some characters need to be replaced over time. and with the new characters being introduced, i think we can expect more star wars to come in future...

ps: just read from wikipedia that the person who played chewbacca was the same person who played the character in 1977 too! omg!

pps: oh, there were parts of the theme song that reminded me of the theme song of the chinese tv series - 倚天屠龙记... but that is another thing altogether.
