mum complained that she had a wobbly tooth that was causing her pain and i thought she was joking. she is 81 and had had all her teeth removed many many decades ago! in fact she had been using full upper and lower dentures for the whole of my life! so how could she possibly grow a tooth! and to prove herself right, she show me a little knob-like outgrowth on her lower jaw. i touched it and it was hard and moving. she said it was painful and asked me to arranged for it to be removed. that was 2 evenings ago.
this evening, we finally visited the dentist. and it was interesting. the dentist took an x-ray and showed me the tooth. it was a very small tooth, no larger that 4mm and very similar to that of a baby. and it was even more interesting to see how the dentist extracted it. there was no injection at all. he simply applied a solution to numb the area and used a forcep to pluck it out!
i was curious how mum could possibly grow a tooth at her age and he explained that when she had her tooth removed, the dentist apparently did not do a thorough job and parts of the roots were still there. and some recent aggravations could have triggered the growth. i thought about it and realized her constant complains that her new lower dentures (that was made for her two years ago) could have probably triggered this outgrowth!
first time i heard of such occurrences!
haha!
