have you ever experienced that kinda feeling where you were having a nightmare, and you were at the same time aware about it and wanted to wake up but couldn't? something like an half-in-half-out of body experience. i am not sure of the term that describes this. but it was really intense and felt horrible. trying to move and trying to get out of a sleep that you know you were in but couldn't. the mind vs body struggles. in hokkien, we refer to such experience as 给鬼压到, meaning "there was ghost there and he/ she was pressing you down".
it happened to me once 3-4 weeks back. at that time, i had visited the park for a run at night (as per my routine) and for some weird reasons, i was reminded of a story of someone who saw a ghost there. so when i experienced the feeling, i felt a little uncomfortable. it was like as though the ghost had followed me home. and despite being a person who's boy superstitious, i still couldn't help but felt uneasy about it.
last night, it happened again. and similarly last night, i had gone for a run there. i was sure it was pure coincidence because i had been exercising there very regularly without any issues. then again what happened last night was very intense. i was very tired, yet mentally very active. and when i about to doze off, my nightmare started, and i struggled. i finally shook myself out of my nightmare. i tried to sleep again. and just as i dozed off, the nightmare and the struggle began again. this whole experience repeated itself at least once again and by that time, i was a little afraid to fall asleep. i decided to chant some prayers to calm myself down before finally dozing off to a deep sleep…
kinda disturbing.
ps: this post marked my 100th wtf tag! lol!
pps: did a google and realized it is called "sleep paralysis".
