he's awake

i got news from my cousin last night about my ailing uncle.

he has come round and has been removed from the respiratory machine. he is, however, still hooked up on the dialysis machine but i understood that the support needed has been lessened. as of yesterday, he was able to talk. however, i had been told he was depressed and has expressed his desire to die. i can totally appreciate his depression. i would be the same if i were him. he has just lost his large intestines and, i believe, would be highly reliant on people around him to look after him. in short, he is still grieving over his loss and will need time to come to terms with it. for now, i think the most important thing for us to do is to be there to listen to him and to support him.

but hey, the fact that he is now conscious is a great step ahead for him, considering he was just in critical condition on the eve of the new year, after having undergone the op to remove his large intestines.

so yeah, i was happy to get this update.

best news so far in recent days.

:-)
